AKETEKETE is a new emerging brand that designs and creates sustainable high-quality Woven Bolga Baskets & hand crafted Ghana Glass Recycled Jewelry in Ghana by collaborating with local artisans. We value connecting with creatives to produce modern pieces using old traditional techniques while maintaining ethical and fair processes. We promote a transparent process where the artisan is always the main focus of our work.
Our jewelry is created in the collaboration with local artisans from Ghana, mostly around Accra. From the jewelry makers who creates all our metalwork, to our local glass recycled bead makers and traders who provide us unique and old ghanaian recycled glass beads. Our artisans are given the opportunity to show and improve their skills by working together with Aketekete’s co-founders Maria and Michael who takes care of all the design and beading of each piece. To create thoughtful statements and modern pieces with traditional materials and techniques.
We create each piece with respect for the materials and for the hands that make it. We source natural and recycled materials such as Ghana glass recycled beads to ensure minimal waste and sustainable processes. We innovate and improve our practices and equip our team to do the same.
Each piece can take between 2 to 4 days to be completed. Multiple processes are necessary. From sourcing or creating the glass beads, to form all the metalwork, to the final beading of the pieces. For this reason, each jewelry piece will be unique, displaying the fingerprint of all of us.
